This workshop will focus on the process of creating, as well as the need for establishing, effective peer education programs for adolescents. The focus will be on the O2T (On Second Thought) program, a model peer intervention program which helps to reduce young people’s risk of teen pregnancy and contracting HIV and/or a STD by increasing teen knowledge and encouraging them to change their attitudes and behaviors. Furthermore, the O2T Peer Education program trains youth to facilitate sessions to encourage their peers to make positive changes in their sexual health attitudes and norms. The goal of the workshop is to provide attendees with the necessary tools to begin the process of developing a program to target multiple adolescent health issues within the community.
Danielle Y. Hairston-Green, adolescent health educator and training director, Family Health Council of Central Pennsylvania
