Of the more than 500,000 children and youth in the nation’s child welfare system, most have been exposed to serious traumatic events prior to, or while in, care. Furthermore, many of those children are not receiving the appropriate trauma-informed care and support they need. Utilizing information from the National Child Traumatic Stress Network, which has placed a priority on developing and disseminating trauma-informed training curricula, leadership manuals, assessment tools, and policy and practice initiatives that address critical areas in the child welfare system, this interactive workshop will encourage discussion and feedback about resource materials and information meant to help organizations provide trauma-informed care.
Arlene Fisher, senior vice president of behavioral health services, Family Services of Greater Houston; and Robert L. Hartman, executive vice president/COO, DePelchin Children’s Center
