Maintaining Sanity for Parents and Stability for Children Through Specialized Adoption and Post Adoption Services (IP)

Wednesday, Oct. 14, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Session:
A8
Track:
Innovative Programs (IP)

Many children adopted from the child welfare system have been traumatized by the neglect and/or abuse they experienced. A subsequent move into foster care and then to a permanent home can also contribute to emotional and behavioral issues. The focus of this workshop will be about extensive research data and innovative practices that have had positive impacts on building family relationships, attachment, and cohesion. Presenters will offer data that focuses on providing adoptive parents with knowledgeable, practical, and systemic support to help children heal while maintaining them in their home.

Raquel Runge, evaluation specialist, research and grants management, and Lauretta Simms, program manager, adoption and post adoption services, DePelchin Children’s Center
